Artist Spotlight - Warez

Upbeat Glitch R&B? Soulful Experimental House? Call it what you like, but the music of Warez defies easy description. Raised on a steady diet of Jazz and R&B as a child, Warez quickly developed a fascination for the sonic mechanics and structure of pop music in all its various forms. He has since parlayed this into a style he refers to as “Glitch Pop”, an offbeat and reference-rich musical excursion that draws on the influence of such electronic forerunners as Apparat (BPitch Control), Prefuse 73 (Warp) and Outputmessage (Ghostly International). The Dance EP which is Moodgadget’s 5th release effortlessly blends glitchy, experimental, R&B tinged Electronic House into a sound like no other.
“…Recalling the work of Japanese Boom Boom Satellites in a dreamy and almost psychedelic world of backward vocals and high hats, and vintage Farfisa keyboards. An interesting cross between digital electronica and post-Brit Pop, to say something absurd.”

If you could collaborate with any musician who would it be? What do you think the result would sound like?
I’m really into raw-sounding vocals right now. I’d love to work with Matty Safer and crank out a burner of a dance floor track. Something with an edge. I like what Bent did on their “Waiting for You” track — that was hot. Actually, I’d love to work with Bent too. I have high aspirations.
Share with us a site that you frequent that isn’t music related?
Notcot.org — it’s my “home” page.
What’s your dream gig?
Hard to say. I like to do so many things. Probably something that would allow me to do nothing but take people out to lunch, socialize and make connections all day. Don’t know what that job would be, but if you’re looking for somebody to do that, call me.
Last but not least, promote a friend’s music, who do you know that is underrated?
At the moment, I’m really digging Tonight. We’re not “friends”, we have friends in common. His stuff has a semi-retro feel to it that I’m loving right now. It’s so true to form that it takes me back to middle school. His EP isn’t out yet, but when he breaks he’ll be the most underrated artist in my collection.
