Birth Name: Joseph Sims
Your hometown: I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Instruments used in your music making:
Korg ESX-1, FruityLoops, CoolEdit, AM Radio, Tapes, Vinyl, Yamaha PSR Keyboards, Casio Privia, and lots of BUZZ effects…I used to use Rebirth- a casio SK-1, CE96…
What albums inspired you to start making music?
I listened to Beastie Boys ‘Pauls Botique’ and Orbital’s ‘Insides’ for origional inspirations but mainly the friends I had who were making music with computers at the time inspired me (mid to late 90’s). A lot of whatever I was listening to made its way into my music via samples. But I think tons of different musical influences persist in my music. Later on I got into sequencing when I became enamoured with Squarepusher’s album ‘Big Loada’ I was looking for jungle at Wazoo and was shown that album- that was the first time I heard IDM and I was blown away. Autechre’s Tri Repetae. BOC, Music has the right… Aphex Come to Daddy EP, and Plaid.
What have you been working on recently?
I bought a new Casio and I’m currently enjoying fiddling around with it and producing strange pop tracks with lots of presets.
Name 5 records that your listening to right now?
1.Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji - Piano Music
2.Squarepusher - Hello Everything
3.Dabrye - Instrmntl
4.Sidney Maiden - Trouble An’ Blues
5.Billy Joel - River of Dreams
If you could collab with someone who would it be and describe what kinda of song would you wanna end up with?
I’d want to work with Tom Waits because I’ve never heard his music and everybody keeps talking about him. I’d want to produce some electronic blues pop and record all samples from live jams. We’d need a multi-track recorder, amps, instruments, players, and about 10 microphones……. and over utilize the swing on my drum machine….

What’s your dream gig?
To play some large acoustical hall with strange music produced specifically for the reasonances of said place.
Last but not least, promote a friend’s music, who do you know that is underrated?
There’s this amazing musician I’ve become acquainted with. He goes by the name ‘Nathaniel Nichols’. I asked him for some of his music and he’s sent me CDs. His songs have some amazing quality I can’t describe- it just sounds emotive and thoughtful, yet very simple- something to dream to. I even went so far as to remix one of his tracks because I like the stuff so much.
